ATP architects and engineers and ATP sustain win award procedure: Timeline for terminal development fully on schedule!
The terminal landscape of Salzburg Airport - with the base building dating back to 1966 - has reached the end of its life cycle in terms of construction, technology and regulatory requirements. A fundamental renewal is unavoidable for international airport operations in Salzburg. ATP architekten ingenieure and ATP sustain were among those who applied for the project and were able to win the award procedure with their innovative ideas. “We took our time to find an attractive planning concept. The initial concept submitted by ATP architects and egnineers was rated as the best by the evaluation committee. This gives us a good basis on which to build in the further planning phase over the coming months. I am already very excited to see what the airport terminal will truly look like. It should not only meet all the requirements of a modern, energy-saving and international commercial airport, but also be the first calling card for arriving guests to our region,” says Airport Managing Director Bettina Ganghofer. “Salzburg Airport plays an important role as a driving force for the economy, tourism and employment in our region. The terminal development is an important step towards further establishing Salzburg as a business location and boosting regional value creation,” says Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
In addition to the main “terminal development” project, various additional structural adaptations are required in order to finally transform the airport into an energy-optimized overall ensemble by 2033. The airport's current terminal landscape consists of more than a dozen components that have been built over the decades as part of adaptations or additions to the main building from 1966.
These individual structures are now being completely renovated, extended, architecturally and spatially connected and adapted to modern technical and regulatory standards.
Departures Terminal 2 will be extended and rebuilt, the central check-in hall will be adapted and extended to include a catering and AIRlebniswelt level and, together with the successively newly built Arrivals Terminal 1, will form the new terminal landscape of Salzburg Airport.
