The airport fire department is responsible for a mojority of the safety procedures which are in place at Salzburg Airport, with their function specified by international and national safety directives. The worldwide standards, directives and recommendations for the airport firefighting services are defined by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), Appendix 14.
The civil aviation emergency response code defines emergency procedures in the event of an aviation accident or other critical situation.
The Salzburg airport fire brigade is equipped with 8 fire trucks with a total capacity of 33,500 litres of water and 4,500 litres/kilos of foam fire retardant. This meets the Category 9 standards of the international ICAO firefighting requirements.
