The Association of Austrian Women Pilots recently paid an informative visit to Salzburg Airport with its members.
The group of around 20 visitors was welcomed by Managing Director Bettina Ganghofer in “das Wolfgang” on the visitors' terrace and prepared for the tour with up-to-date insights into airport operations. During the tour, which lasted more than two hours, the pilots were able to take a look behind the fascinating scenes of a lively transportation company.
Highlight: visit to the tower
The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the extensive visit to the airport tower. The tower at Salzburg Airport was put into operation at the beginning of 2014 and, with its height of around 53 meters, provides visitors to the tower pulpit with an impressive overview of the entire airport site. The VÖP members had the unique opportunity to observe the ultra-modern technology and the work processes of the air traffic controllers at close quarters and received detailed explanations of the complex air traffic control systems from the air traffic controllers. The coordination of air traffic could be observed live and, as flight professionals, the VÖP members' knowledge of many processes could be understood without lengthy explanations.
Conclusion with a panoramic view
At the end of the tour, the group enjoyed the breathtaking view from the management terrace, where they could not only watch planes take-off and land, but also Hangar-7, Fortress Hohensalzburg and the picturesque Salzburg mountains. Afterwards, the VÖP members went on a visit to Hangar 7.
