Existing Doppler petrol station site to be extended by 810 m²: check-in carwash GmbH & Co KG Partner for vehicle interior preparation
Many people have seen the construction site at the Salzburg Airport exit on the Innsbrucker Bundesstraße when driving past and may have asked themselves - what is being built there? The reason why part of the P8 employee parking lot is being converted and made available to the petrol station operator Doppler Energie is quickly explained. “The existing space at the airport should be used sensibly and developed further. With the interior refurbishment, we are closing a service gap - not only for our car rental companies, but also for our customers, visitors and guests at the airport. The redesign of the Spar Express also makes the location more attractive. This makes future projects with our long-standing partner, Doppler Energie, particularly enjoyable,” says airport managing director Bettina Ganghofer.
Salzburg Airport is the gateway to the economic and tourism region “EuRegio Salzburg - Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein”. In good years, around 1.8 million passengers are handled and many use the numerous car rental companies at Salzburg Airport in addition to the public transport connections, their own cars or transport companies. After the vehicles are returned, they have to be professionally prepared inside and out for the next customer. “With around 810 additional square meters, we are creating a compact service area of around 3,400 square meters for the airport partner and petrol station operator Doppler Energie with a car wash and connected car preparation center. And our car rental companies can prepare their cars for the next customer quickly and efficiently on the airport premises,” Ganghofer continues.
The “Doppler difference”: Airport service station with car valeting center
In the vicinity of the airport, there are various providers of car wash stations and car wash facilities that at least offer automatic exterior cleaning, but not the time-consuming and necessary professional interior cleaning of the vehicles. Until now, the car rental companies based at the airport in particular have lacked a tailor-made service. “The Doppler Group has been working in partnership with Salzburg Airport for decades. In 2023, it was decided to implement a joint investment project at the existing filling station. An upgrade of the existing Spar Express store is planned, as well as an investment in the existing car-wash and jet-wash facilities. The aim is to give the site a new look,” says Dr. Bernd Zierhut, CEO of the Doppler Group.
The first step in October 2022 was to re-equip the existing wash hall with state-of-the-art washing technology and completely re-equip the two lance wash bays for manual exterior cleaning, “in addition, a unit for the professional care of vehicles will be created in order to be able to clean the rental vehicles that can be rented at Salzburg Airport professionally and quickly. We look forward to continuing our successful cooperation,” Bernd Zierhut continues. With a turnover of more than 1.8 billion euros, the rapidly growing Doppler Group can look back on a successful 2022 financial year. Despite the crisis mode, more than 1.3 billion liters of fuel were sold in the past year, which corresponds to an increase of around 28% compared to the previous year. There are a total of 266 stations throughout Austria, including 3 tower power stations and 263 tower oil stations.
Doppler Aviation number 1 at regional airports
In Austria, the Doppler Group supplies commercial enterprises with low-cost diesel and gasoline. Doppler Aviation has now become the largest supplier for regional airports in Austria. The products Avgas, Jet and Super100 are supplied to all regional airports throughout Austria. With sales of more than 2.4 million liters, 2022 was also a record year here.
Sparkling clean with check-in carwash : Car valeting professional adds to the range of services
With the third partner in the group, check-in carwash GmbH & Co KG (https://www.cicw.at/), founded in 2014, a professional for the interior and exterior preparation of vehicles has been brought on board. The car cleaning professional, which received an award from Austrian Standards in 2018, has been represented at Vienna Airport since 2015 and has adapted its product to the needs and high quality standards of its customers over the years. “Right on the doorstep of the airport and in the immediate vicinity of the rental stations, it saves car rental companies unnecessary kilometers to drive the vehicles to the nearest service points. From the end of August, this interior and exterior service for cars will not only be offered to our rental car customers in Salzburg, but also to anyone who wants a professionally cleaned car,” says Simon Ludick, Managing Director and co-owner, who is delighted about the new opportunity to professionally clean cars at Salzburg Airport.
How can customers register?
“We are currently evaluating various possibilities. At the moment, we already offer it for employees at the SZG (hand in at the service point after online booking). There will be an online booking option “for everyone”; we will also create solutions for “walk-in” customers as well as an option to combine parking and cleaning for passengers. The Viennese version with vending machines is not planned, we are trying to make it more low-threshold,” Ludick continues.
