It is with deep sadness that the management and all employees of Salzburg Airport announce that Karl Heinz Bohl, former Managing Director and long-time Commercial Director of Salzburg Airport, has passed away peacefully at the age of 74 after a long and serious illness.
A great man has left us, a companion, a managing director, a colleague and a friend. “Charly” was a good soul of the airport for many years, leaving behind many traces and positively influencing people and careers. As Managing Director of Salzburg Airport, he was responsible for administration, non-aviation, finance and controlling.
“Charly” Bohl was born on 11.10.1950 in St. Johann im Pongau, was the father of 2 daughters, grandfather of 4 and happily married. After attending elementary and middle school, he graduated from the Salzburg Commercial Academy while working. Many people who knew him did not know, however, that Karl Heinz Bohl took his glider pilot's exam in 1968, thus laying the foundation for his close connection with aviation. After studying business administration in Linz (1974-1980) and graduating in 1981, Karl Bohl became commercial manager of the Dachstein company in Munich after holding several positions in the banking sector. In 1984, he moved to Salzburg Airport as commercial manager and, at the same time as Roland Hermann, Karl Bohl was granted general power of attorney for Salzburg Airport in 1989. In 2002 he was appointed Managing Director of the subsidiary Carport Parkmanagement, two years later he became a member of the Supervisory Board of the subsidiary Salzburg Airport Services and in 2008 finally Managing Director of Salzburg Airport.
Karl Heinz Bohl was largely responsible for the successful expansion and strengthening of the non-aviation sector. When he took office as Managing Director, the airport had an equity ratio of almost 75% thanks to his forward-looking financial policy. Under his leadership, a management level was formed of people who were firmly rooted in the airport company and for whom the workplace meant not only work, but also a personal connection. Karl Heinz Bohl's close relationship with the people at Salzburg Airport welded the company together.
Karl Heinz Bohl left his mark on the people who were allowed to accompany him and he had a very special credo that he liked to convey to everyone: “It's up to you - be creative, the final result must suit you and the airport, you determine the path yourself.”
Karl Bohl will always be remembered by airport employees as a good person and a boss with a good heart and mind.
