Students from the University of Applied Sciences create ideas for Green Airport and land development
When Salzburg University of Applied Sciences came into contact with the airport in 2023, the idea of creating a UAS project for the winter semester 2023/2024 was born after a brief presentation of the airport as a location. Under the heading "Green Airport and land development", the students were then sent into the race with various tasks such as neighborhood development, dealing with existing areas and buildings and energy self-sufficiency in order to work out proposals for nifty concepts for the development of the airport.
After the presentation of the semester project on September 22, 2023, the students met the "clients" from the airport almost a month later, were given an overview during a guided tour and were introduced to the tasks. After forming groups and attending three workshops at the UAS, the students had until April to work on their concepts, ideas and designs, which were presented at the airport in April 2024.
"I would like to thank the students of the Smart Buildings in Smart Cities department at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences for their outstanding project work on Green Airport Salzburg. We need innovative, environmentally friendly and forward-looking concepts for urban development and the topic of energy self-sufficiency in particular is now an integral part of any business or industrial enterprise. Thank you for the good suggestions, many of the ideas submitted will now keep us busy over the coming weeks and months," says airport managing director Bettina Ganghofer.
Gerald Schwaiger from the airport's specialist department, who is responsible for the master plan and area development, supervised the study project. "I think we saw from the exciting presentations that there were many good ideas that the airport can use for the future development of the existing areas at Salzburg Airport. New and fresh perspectives, unorthodox approaches and state-of-the-art environmental technologies were presented. I consider the cooperation with the students to be extremely valuable," says Gerald Schwaiger. The coming months and years will bring many challenges for Salzburg Airport, whether it is the new terminal landscape, the introduction of EES or the development of existing and new areas.
