Long-standing partnership between Salzburg Airport and VW continues
Long-standing partnership continues with the ID. Buzz, which will be used as an ambassador for e-mobility in the shuttle service, among other things: the electric van is put through its paces for a year in tough airport use; practical use at Salzburg Airport provides important insights into suitability, robustness and functionality
On the apron of Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart, the official handover of a fully electric ID. Buzz by Porsche Austria Managing Director Wilfried Weitgasser to Bettina Ganghofer, Managing Director of Salzburg Airport. Over the next 12 months, the multifunctional all-rounder will demonstrate its sustainable and CO2-neutral qualities as a VIP shuttle and on the airport apron as well as outside the airport, providing important insights into the use of electric vehicles at the airport.
E-mobility is the biggest and most efficient lever for driving forward the decarbonization of transport: With the use of the fully electric and emission-free ID. Buzz, Salzburg Airport and Volkswagen are taking a further step towards reducing the CO2 emissions caused by the daily journeys required. Especially in airport operations, electric vehicles such as the ID. Buzz can fully exploit their strengths resulting from the drive system, for example to make the combination of short distances and waiting times on the airport apron efficient and CO2-neutral during shuttle operations.
"It gives me great pleasure to implement forward-looking projects with our long-standing partner. We all benefit from this, Porsche Austria, Salzburg Airport and its guests. Every initiative for sustainable transformation, no matter how small, is important and innovative mobility solutions are an indispensable part of our path to CO2 neutrality by 2040," says Bettina Ganghofer, Managing Director of Salzburg Airport.
"Volkswagen vehicles have a long tradition at Salzburg Airport. We are delighted that the first all-electric model will now be in service at the airport for the next 12 months," says Wilfried Weitgasser, Managing Director of Porsche Austria: "With the ID. Buzz, we are opening a new chapter in sustainable mobility together with the airport. The path to a CO2-neutral future is a joint task and requires a joint effort from all of us. E-mobility is the most efficient and environmentally friendly way to get energy on the road - and every single contribution counts."
The cooperation also offers the two Salzburg-based companies the opportunity to gain important insights into the suitability, robustness and functionality of e-vehicles in airport use - in all four seasons and in all weathers. The range of applications for the practical test extends from VIP rides and shuttle services to errands and the transportation of goods required for safe and reliable operations at the airport. The focus is also on the important areas of charging management and safety issues.
All-electric image and appeal driver
The ID. Buzz will be an ambassador for all-electric and sustainable mobility over the next 12 months and will not only put a smile on the faces of passengers being transported from the aircraft to the terminal or vice versa with its charismatic and friendly appearance, but will also attract the attention of numerous arriving and departing passengers from all over the world.
"Salzburg is not only a tourist hotspot, but also our home base and Salzburg Airport has been an important hub for us as a globally active company for many decades. By operating here at Salzburg Airport, the ID. Buzz plays an important ambassadorial role for passengers in the transformation and decarbonization of our brands towards a sustainable mobility future," adds Wilfried Weitgasser.
"Our electric 'Bulli' is a multifunctional all-rounder that not only offers sustainable mobility across the board, but also knows how to impress its passengers with plenty of comfort, safety and space. Compact on the outside, spacious on the inside with plenty of room for luggage too - predestined for use in the VIP shuttle service here at Salzburg Airport, where many business travelers also need to be transported every day," says Miriam Walz, Brand Manager of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Head of Fleets and Direct Customers.
Multifunctional electric bus with a holistic approach
Holistic sustainability for a climate-conscious future is the claim of the new ID. Buzz. With its built-in 77 kWh battery and a system output of 150 kW / 204 hp, it offers a range of up to around 420 emission-free kilometers. It completes the charging stop from 10 to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Thanks to its animal leather-free interior and the use of recycled materials in the interior, for example in the seat covers or roof lining, the all-electric VW bus of the new era also reconciles sustainability and comfort.
Thanks to the maximum use of space, the space-saving, completely newly developed interior concept offers plenty of legroom for five people. The comfortably adjustable seats can be used variably and even with all passengers on board, the five-seater loads up to 1,121 liters of luggage behind the second row of seats. With its small turning circle of just over eleven meters, the ID. Buzz is easy to maneuver even in narrow driveways.
