The second EMAS Experience Exchange 2024 (ERFA) of the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) took place at Salzburg Airport in Amadeus terminal 2.
On 11 June, around 80 participants from EMAS and ISO companies and organizations came together in Salzburg to share their experiences on the topic of CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). For many it was the first time to participate in an ERFA event in such a spacious location to discuss excellent contributions from the field.
What does CSRD actually mean?
CSRD is an EU-wide directive that requires companies to report transparently on their social and environmental impacts. It aims to promote sustainable investment by providing clear and comparable data and encouraging companies to disclose their sustainable development practices and policies.
Well prepared with EMAS, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001
From 2026, Salzburg Airport will also have to change its reporting system and replace the current annual and sustainability report with a CSRD report. "Salzburg Airport is already well prepared for the comprehensive requirements for CSRD with its management systems in accordance with EAMS, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 and does not have to start from scratch. The surveys of other companies that are also subject to CSRD reporting requirements were very valuable," says Claudia Typelt, Head of the Environmental Department at Salzburg Airport.
Fascinating world of CSRD
The important topic of environmental aspects as a direct intersection with the CSRD significance-assessment was covered by Manuela Bigler from the Austrian Federal Environment Agency GmbH. This was followed by a presentation on the CSRD & significance-assessment of SIMACEK GmbH (Alexander Boubal, MSc., Chief Sustainability Officer). After a short break, the environmental aspects and "where the challenges still lie", indirect environmental aspects and key performance indicators, were discussed in detail. In addition to various practical reports (SENOPLAST Klepsch & Co. GmbH, Silhouette International Schmied AG and others), the mutual exchange of information and networking during the breaks was particularly important.
