With flydubai NONSTOP to the international HUB Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (VAE) focuses on the Salzburg market
flydubai obtains traffic rights for four flights in 2021! Aviation is still struggling with the massive effects of the Covid-19-pandemic, but we are already looking towards the future. Salzburg Airport has used the opportunity and is very pleased to announce a new attractive flight connection.
At the beginning of 2019, Bettina Ganghofer, CEO of Salzburg Airport, announced at a press conference that Salzburg Airport would be working on its flight program and on connections to the major international hubs. It was then that the name Dubai was mentioned for the first time. Numerous projects have been implemented successfully, but because of the emergence of Corona, air traffic came to a virtual standstill worldwide. However, the intention to connect Salzburg directly to Dubai was pursued, despite all adversities, together with the designated airline for this route – flydubai. „Often things turn out differently than you think and we will finally be able to reap the fruits of our work together in 2021. This will enable us to take a big step towards the United Arab Emirates as well as the international hub Dubai. Not only passengers from Salzburg will take the opportunity to fly to Dubai, but also Arab guests will travel to our beautiful country”, says Bettina Ganghofer.

It has always been the ambition of regional airports to provide its market with good flight connections. A NONSTOP flight connection to Dubai, however, is new ground for Austria’s largest regional airport. „It is always important for Salzburg Airport to enable new flight opportunities, all the more in view of the Covid pandemic. The new flight connection is a ray of hope for our airport, which has been hit particularly hard by the Corona crisis. Dubai offers tourists as well as business travelers a quick connection to the Arab world”, says Christian Stöckl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Salzburg Airport.
Emirates will codeshare on both routes and the flights will operate from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB), offering travellers more seamless connections through Dubai’s international aviation hub to 155 destinations between both the Emirates and flydubai networks including Australia, China, Indian Ocean, Japan, South Asia and the United States. Commenting on the announcement, Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “with the start of flights to Salzburg we continue to gradually grow our network catering to an increasing demand for travel, as more passengers return to the skies and more countries ease restrictions on international air travel. Since commencing operations in 2009, we have been committed to opening up previously underserved markets and the launch of our latest routes in Europe demonstrates our continuous efforts to offer more people the opportunity to travel more often while creating free flows of travel, trade, and tourism.”
Dubai is one of the world’s leading tourism destinations and is well known for its luxury hotels, shopping malls, the skyscraper Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure in the world, as well as its clean beaches and desert landscapes. It is also an international events hub and there is an opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, lifestyle and sports activities. Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, added: “with the addition of Salzburg to our network we are able to provide passengers from the UAE and GCC with more choice for travel, while giving people from Austria and the surrounding region access to Dubai’s international travel hub. We are committed to enabling passengers to travel with greater peace of mind with our recently launched multi-risk travel insurance and additional benefits with the opportunity to bid for an upgrade to Business Class. We look forward to the start of flights next year and the new opportunities these routes will provide for trade and tourism.”
Active market development identifies those areas and destinations with an additional demand for new or adapted connections. This is based on concrete market analyses and close cooperation with all stakeholders – incoming and outgoing, tourism and business travelers. The focus is clearly on further qualitative development, offering optimal connectivity, which also helps to secure the location as well as jobs in the long term. „I am absolutely convinced that the Salzburg market will react very positively to this route. From the very beginning, we were convinced that this flight connection would be an asset for the airport and the airline. flydubai operates flights in codeshare with Emirates, thus ensuring an easy and quick onward journey as well as the benefits of the entire Emirates’ global route network“, says Authorized Signatory Christopher Losmann.
