The subsidiary of Israeli national carrier EL AL – Sun d`Or– started operations on October 1st 1977, at that time under the name of EL AL Charter Services Ltd. In 1981 the airline, based at Ben-Gurion Airport, received a new name: Sun d´Or. When national carrier EL AL was privatized, Sun d´Or was privatized as well. Until 2013 flights were operated in codeshare under the name of EL AL. Today Sun d´Or operates scheduled, seasonal and charter flights using leased Boeing 737-800 under its own name. EL AL is still responsible for the crews as well as the maintenance of aircrafts and both airlines share the Matmid Frequent Flyer Club. Today Sun d´Or operates flights to more than 40 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean. A re-branding process in 2009 connected Sun d´Or inseparably with a holiday concept. The brand promise “Follow the Sun” was launched to ensure that the holiday experience starts right when boarding the plane.
