Relay Shop Has Been Expanded

Relay Shop expands sales area / 36 additional square meters increase sales area to around 143 m² / comprehensive and more convenient shopping experience better meets passenger travel needs

Lagardère Travel Retail launched three new catering units at Salzburg Airport in August 2022. Following extensive renovation work, the newly designed market café in the waiting area in front of the gates and the trendy restaurant “Das Wolfgang” on the second floor of the airport terminal (open-air roof terrace with a unique panorama) were joined by a modern relay store with a wide range of products for travelers and locals. In addition to Austrian and international daily newspapers, there is a selection of national and international newspapers and magazines, books, electronic items, tobacco products, travel supplies, drinks, sweet and savory snacks and many other useful products.

The highlight of the Relayshop is the adjoining “So!Coffee” café, which offers visitors a cozy atmosphere to linger over small snacks, coffee specialties and hot drinks. The sales area quickly became too small. Right next to the existing Relay Shop, there was an airline counter and lost-and-found office space that was no longer needed, which was perfect for expanding the store. More space means an even broader product range, and the conversion was finally successfully completed on December 13, 2024. The Relay Shop is open seven days a week and is aimed not only at passengers, but also at residents and employees in the vicinity of the airport. It offers the convenient option of shopping on Sundays and public holidays, stocking up on the essentials and enjoying a coffee after shopping and handing in your lottery ticket. The already good range in the store now offers an even larger selection of newspapers, magazines, snacks, drinks, souvenirs and travel accessories. The new product categories include practical travel accessories such as neck pillows, chargers and umbrellas. A particular highlight of the expansion is the introduction of self-checkout tills. Shorter waiting times with the self-checkouts, faster and more efficient processing of purchases as more customers can be served at the same time and an overall higher level of customer satisfaction are ensured by these self-checkouts. “The renovation was started after the busy fall vacations, the passenger flow ran smoothly during the renovation phase and we were able to complete the work in time for the start of the winter season. With the expansion, the Relay Shop not only benefits from significantly improved visibility, it is now positioned directly in the check-in hall and offers our travelers more convenience as well as better and faster accessibility,” says Wolfgang Mittermayr, Head of Non Aviation Salzburg Airport.
